Austin Startup Week Pre-Event - Startup Weekend Austin | Veterans, presented by Grow With Google
CHECK OUT THE SCHEDULE AND LEARN MORE HERE

Your idea in 54 hours

Techstars Startup Weekend and Grow with Google have joined forces to offer this special event FREE of charge to the first people who register.

Although anyone can sign up, the event will be geared towards active duty service members, veterans, their family members and civilians in the defense space.

Hurry to secure your spot; this event will sell out quickly!

Techstars & Google recognize that veterans make exceptional founders and employees. Their resourcefulness and ability to execute is unparalleled. Many veterans have gone through Techstars accelerators and successfully exited. In fact, Patriot Bootcamp was born because their founders are both Techstars alumni and veterans. Techstars now has 2 accelerators focused on defense, one in Boston & one in Adelaid. This Startup Weekend exists because Google & Techstars believe in the military community and want to create access to the startup ecosystem.

What is Grow with Google Startup Weekend Austin for Veterans? It is the best place to learn how to build a startup in a weekend and connect with your community; a melting pot of the area’s most creative thinkers, builders and implementers.  It’s a 3-day long sprint to launch new products and services that solve real-world problems.

Grow with Google is an initiative that draws on Google’s 20-year history of building products, platforms, and services that help people and businesses grow. Through Grow with Google, Google aims to help everyone across America – those who make up the workforce of today and the students who will drive the workforce of tomorrow – access the best of Google’s training and tools to grow their skills, careers, and businesses.

Techstars Startup Weekend Austin and Google have joined forces to bring this special event to life as part of Austin Startup Week.

Blockchain Track | Blockchain for Artists and the Arts
This session - with Jeremy Drzal of Collections.io as MC - will explore two ways that blockchain has applicability to artists and the arts:

(1) Blockchain can help artists get credit for their work, prevent black market sales and forgeries, and help to make sure collectables are always shipped and handled in a consistently correct manner. Karen Kilroy of Kilroy Blockchain describes how blockchain and cryptoanchors would have helped her to prove the authenticity and ownership of a painting which, as a teen, she gave to David Bowie. Little did she know he would keep it until his death, and that it would turn up in a New York City museum in 2018.

(2) In fact, blockchain can actually be art itself. Sebastián Brocher presents CryptoArte, an art collection with each painting based on 576 consecutive blocks that exist on the Ethereum blockchain. Paintings may be purchased and downloaded, and verified as authentic using an ERC721 token.

Embracing the Unconventional
Just because it hasn’t been done before, it does not mean you can’t do it. Growing up the daughter of a sugar mill manager in one of the poorest states in Brazil, people have doubted the feasibility of Larissa’s goals throughout her life. When at the age of nine, she wanted to be the first person in her state to go to Harvard, people said it was a very far fetched dream.  But she did it. When she turned down a fast-track position at a Fortune 500 company after graduation, people were even more flummoxed. Achieving success means taking risks to do something you’re passionate about. It can be easy to get caught up in a name (Google, Amazon, or Burger King) or in a general rule.  But the most exciting opportunities are more often than not on the least conventional paths . In this talk, Larissa will discuss the importance of carving your own path and taking calculated risks.

The Importance of Non-Technical Talent at a Startup / How to Make an Impact as a Non-Founder and Non-Coder
If you don’t code and aren’t yet a founder, it can be daunting and difficult to make a splash in the startup scene. The competition is fierce with thousands of people vying for just a few non-technical roles at viable startups. If you do land the job, it can be easy to pigeon-hole yourself into one area, but it’s the scrappiest, passionate person who is  willing to take on anything that gets ahead. In this talk, Larissa can speak to how the role of the non-technical manager has brought her from customer experience to sales to recruiting to business development and back again and how others can find a way to get noticed by and make an impact at their startups. Larissa can also speak to what in her experience makes a good non-technical hire and how to identify them.

Social Impact Track | How Austin Becomes the Nation's Capital for Diverse, Homegrown Tech Talent
In 2016, over 5,000 computer science jobs went unfilled in the Austin metro area. At the same time, nearly 60,000 Central Texas high school students from minority or low-income backgrounds lacked access to pursuing the very STEM careers that went unfilled in companies located only a few zip codes away. In this session, attendees will have an opportunity to hear from a panel of local leaders moving the needle on diversity and inclusion in Austin's startup ecosystem, from high school to our current workforce. Listen to individuals and organizations on the frontlines of training, engaging, and recruiting diverse tech talent in Austin, and hear about their insights and experience on creating opportunities for coding education and technical skills recruitment from minority and low-income groups in the region. Let's start a bigger dialoague about creating diverse, homegrown tech talent in our city, and help Austin rival top technical markets like the Bay Area and New York with respect to the diversity, quality and regional ties of the technical talent pool.

Developer Track | Breakfast Tech Talks: The Anatomy of a Successful JavaScript Application & Using Elixir to Build a Suite of Platform APIs
9:30 AM - 10:10 AM

The Anatomy of a Successful JavaScript Application

Tim Robertson, Software Architect Front-End, Spredfast

Building a modern, robust, and complicated front-end JS application is a huge challenge. Balancing reliability, new feature velocity, application performance, deployments, error reporting, styling, code reuse/shareability, and a mountain of tooling overwhelms many of us.

At Spredfast, we’ve built some incredible JavaScript applications that are thriving under the stress of real-world demands. As an early adopter of React (6 years ago), we’ve been on the forefront of UI development. This talk will walk you through the key decisions we’ve made for technology, process, and people to continue to ship world-class JS applications.

10:10 AM - 10:50 AM

Making space between the rock and the hard place - Using Elixir to build a suite of platform APIs on a legacy system and loving it

David Bernazal, Director of Product at Chiron Health

At Chiron Health, we provide a service for providers to conduct video visits with their patients. We also provide a platform for healthcare companies to easily integrate video visits into their existing applications.

Earlier this year we were tasked with building infrastructure to support our growing platform business while still maintaining backwards compatibility with products built for our direct business. We took this as an opportunity to improve upon past decisions and take advantage of new technologies at the same time. Come learn about why we choose Elixir for our new infrastructure and how we've been able to move quickly while still serving our existing products.

Health Tech Track | Your Health is Your Wealth
This panel will discuss the ways in which a person’s health and wealth are inextricably intertwined. Ill health is not only a ticket to an early grave, it’s expensive. Good health, on the other hand, reduces strain on the bank account and can enhance it through savings on medical expenses, financial rewards (from insurers, employers and others) and new ways of monetizing one’s health data.

Social Impact Track | Get Out To Vote: How to Shake Up Your City Through Civic Engagement
Far too many Central Texans do not know where candidates for elected office stand on issues important to them. The most robust ways to find out - candidate questionnaires from community organizations - are not easy to find unless a voter already knows about a particular community group or does significant research into the causes and candidates they care about. |What if residents had a way to filter community questions by candidate, cause, or ZIP Code? We've created Informed.vote, a place where residents are able to search all questions posed by community groups and get answers direct from the candidates - all in one place. Come learn about the ways you can be a more informed voter. We'll also be transforming The Center for Social Innovation into a voter registration hub! Come turn out to vote this Tuesday. Free lunch provided courtesy of NeWorlDeli.

12:30 - 1:10 PM - Digital Meets Physical: Getting Started With Augmented Reality

Tricia Katz , Senior Software Engineer, Outdoor Voices

Augmented Reality has the power to enhance digital experiences, or create new ones entirely. In this session we’ll discuss the fundamentals of AR and begin augmenting the world around you. You’ll learn how to seamlessly blend virtual objects into the real world, a world where technology and consumers are ready to interact. The question is - AR you?

1:10 - 1:50 PM - DOCKER! CONTAINERS! KUBERNETES! GAAAAH!

Mando Escamilla, Senior Software Engineer, Spredfast

If you don't know a Docker from a Kubernetes in the ground, don’t panic - I gotchu.  We'll start off easy and go through what is even a docker container and why you should probably care about them.  Next, we'll develop a mental model of a kubernetes cluster and what it does, and finally jump into a demo of how you’d build and deploy a simple JavaScript application inside a kubernetes cluster.

Don’t worry — if we were able to figure this out, you can too.

potential to be developed into a product or service for commercial or
defense markets.

Developer Track | Tech Talks: Product Dev's Secret Weapons & Taking the Pain out of Support Engineering
2:00 - 2:40 PM - Empathy & Inclusion: Product Dev's Secret Weapon

Annie Hsieh, Dev Lead at Square Root, Inc

Inclusion in tech -- beyond recruitment and retention -- what about the often undiscussed impact on product development? In this session, Annie Hsieh will share her personal journey as a minority woman in tech, discussing why divergent thought is critical for product development, and offer tips on how to foster inclusion throughout the process. Annie will discuss how an empathy-oriented approach to product development -- from user interviews to internal processes and meeting structures -- drives better end products and bigger impacts. She'll also cover how individuals and companies can partner with organizations like Women Who Code to help solve the inclusion challenge and redefine the tech talent pool of tomorrow.

2:40 - 3:20 PM - Taking the Pain out of Support Engineering

Cecy Correa, Software Engineer, Return Path

Production support is not a priority. No one on the team wants to work on support cards. Being on-call is a pain. Does this ring a bell? We’ve all been there! There is a better way to handle Support Engineering for your product. A way that will level up your team, and create positive support experiences for your customers. Drawing on 3+ years of Support Engineering at two different companies, I will share successful Support patterns and tools you can start using today to improve your product support.

Developer Track | Engineering Excellence: Technological Communication & Best Practices of High-Performing Teams
3:30 - 4:10 PM - Technological Communication

Adam Coulon, Cofounder and CTO, WiGo Trips

Communication within any technical field is becoming increasingly significant to building an effective team. In order to successfully execute the vision of a product requires collaboration between those who understand its requirements, and those who have the technical expertise to create it. Teams are comprised of variety of roles, and often each role brings a different set of professional experience and expertise to the overall effort. This creates a non-trivial, multi-dimensional communication problem. Because there is not a standard solution, it is important to understand the fundamentals of how communication occurs between different types of roles on a team in order to successfully complete a product.

The purpose of this talk is to share my personal observations and conclusions on communication within a technological team. The talk will begin by touching on the interactions between those with common roles, then move on to the difficulties that are faced within the interactions between those with different roles. The talk will conclude with recommendations on techniques that I believe will improve overall team communication, and then shift into an interactive discussion (pending interest).

4:10 - 4:50 PM - Engineering Excellence: Best Practices of High-Performing Teams

Shaun Martin, Rebase LLC

Technology has the ability to solve some of humanity’s greatest challenges, and it’s usually the dynamic, growing organizations who are best positioned to create these solutions.

Yet the biggest factor that separates companies who are massively successful from those that wither and die is NOT the funding, the founder, or one killer feature.

No, it’s the team's ability to execute effectively, to perform at a high level, to repeatedly build and deliver solutions quickly and efficiently.

I recently got to witness an interview with two mega-successful entrepreneurs: Uri Levine (Waze, Moovit) and Jennifer Fleiss (Rent the Runway, Jetblack), where they confirmed what I already knew: They both said the #1 most important contributor to their success was building a great team.

Join us as we dive into the habits and practices that make the talented teams in Engineering truly elite.

What Silicon Valley is Missing
Immigrants are people your company is missing out on and many companies that are recruiting immigrants are still missing out because they're recruiting all the wrong ways. American businesses look at education and occupation, but they completely miss out on highly talented individuals who didn't go to college and thus have a harder time getting Visas. In this talk, we'll speak to common missteps in the recruiting process and best practices for recruiting an international team.

Smart Cities Track | How to Help Local Businesses Amidst Changing Urban Dynamics
As real estate prices go up and labor costs increase in popular cities like Austin, Seattle, and Denver, what can be done to make sure our local businesses (like our local, independent restaurants that we love) can continue putting out great food to their community! We don't want to become San Francisco, and it's not too late to change the tide. Reset partners with local independent restaurants (dinner-only) to open up their space during the day to allow remote workers (freelancers, entrepreneurs, startup non profits) for half the price of traditional co-working. We're helping bring money back to local businesses and not to new brick & mortar co-working spots and also helping our remote working community out with a more affordable option (Austin has the highest % of remote workers in the US).

Join Reset and entrepreneurs who are helping their local businesses, tapping into underutilized assets, or more broadly accelerating the sharing economy in a way that benefits parties that have been affected by the crazy growth of Austin.

gShowdown: Will Artificial Intelligence Take Over the World?
It's goin down, Galvanize style. HOT TOPICS, COLD BEER.

Join us for the FINAL (for 2018) in a series of events that will put our communities' experts on two sides of an issue facing the tech community in head to head debate-style showdown. This is the only live debate in town where the audience decides who wins.

That's right... YOU decide who wins the gShowdown Belt at the end of the debate.

Our second ever gShowdown will feature TWO hot topics related to TECH.

WILL ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE TAKE OVER THE WORLD?

Zuckerberg thinks that AI will enable humans to achieve impossible feats. Elon Musk is afraid that robots will take over the world if we don't regulate them. Artificial intelligence is a touchy topic for many techies. We want to know whether it will enhance our lives as another tool in our tool belt to solve the world's most complex problems or will it run awry and become so smart that we face dire consequences. YOU DECIDE!

Byron Reese, celebrated author and entrepreneur for GigaOM, will debate Charlie Burgoyne, CEO of Valkyrie.AI, on whether AI will take over the world for the worse of humanity.

EdTech Track | The Importance of Soft Skills in a High Tech World (Capital Factory, 16th Floor)
Let’s discuss why teaching soft skills with edtech is just as important for student development as teaching the traditional, quantifiable skills currently being emphasized. It is all too common to hear people preach the importance of math, science, and coding in this increasingly technological world. What you don’t hear about is the equal importance of learning soft skills—skills that are not easy to quantify, like kindness, ethics, empathy, leadership, perseverance, resilience, etc. These soft skills need to be developed early and often, Pre-K through 12 and beyond, and edtech can lead the way.

International Track | Austin's Immigrant Entrepreneurs: Some Amazing Stories (Capital Factory)
With all the vitriolic and xenophobic language spewing out of Washington these days, it's more  important than ever that we acknowledge the contributions of immigrants to American society, the development of our shared culture, and to business and job creation. More than 40 percent of companies on the U.S. Fortune 500 list were launched by immigrants or children of immigrants.  The legacies are already firmly established behind Google's co-founder Sergey Brin from Russia...eBay's Pierre Omidyar from France...Yahoo's Jerry Yang from Taiwan... and Intel co-founder Andy Grove from Hungary.   And sitting atop the foreign entrepreneurial kingpin roster these days is South Africa's Elon Musk and his ground-breaking parallel ventures in automotive with Tesla, transportation with SpaceX, engineering with The Boring Company, and energy with SolarCity, to name but a few. Closer to home, Austin is now home to 260,000 immigrants in our metro area making up 15% of the population.  Immigrants also power the Austin economy as job creators, small business owners and|entrepreneurs.  They make up 12% of the metro's business owners with paid employees, and are self-employed at a higher rate (8.9%) than the Native-born population (6.6%).  According to a 2015 study by the Austin Commission on Immigrant Affairs, 25% of our city's new tech startups are being created by immigrants to this country.  Who are some of these people among us, quietly creating jobs and bringing new prosperity to our residents?  How else do they contribute to the richness of our community?  What adversities have they faced as immigrants yet still prevailed?  What inspirations do their stories provide to all entrepreneurs?

Food and CPG Track | Harvesting Energy From Fusion (The Refinery)
Natures Collective Organization is a Non-Profit Alternative to the For-Profit Anaerobic Digestion Systems and power plant systems. We accept many types of organic material from excess logging and agriculture waste too food scrap biomass from our local community vendors to process through our future AD System Which and steam turbines creating methane and steam powered energy that can be turned into Kilowatt hours for use by the citizens of our community. We then create Carbon Rich Soil by mixing the organic bio char created from the heating our Steam turbines with the by product Soil from Our AD system. This Carbon Rich Soil retains nutrients better than the average chemically enhanced Soil due to cation exchange capacity. We sell a portion of the Carbon Rich Compost to local distributors. And farm the remaining soil to grow produce for our members allowing us to feed our community as well as harvest energy from their fusion.

In our session we will discus what we need in order to grow our organization further and our expected date of Energy generation.

The “maker” movement itself has been touted as an antidote to many of today's challenges in education, but many educators don’t have a clear sense of how “maker” learning works or how to get started with a maker-centric approach.

That's when pi-top, a learning company transforming the way kids learn through "learning by making", comes in. Learn more about the pi-top team, mission, and how pi-top is currently enabling educators and students to engage in the world beyond school.

Food and CPG Track | Your First 1000 Foodies: How to Market and Bootstrap Growth For Your CPG Company (The Refinery)
A deep dive into the marketing strategy and tactics Kettle & Fire used to scale from a bootstrapped startup to a CPG juggernaut. Kettle & Fire (kettleandfire.com) is one of the fastest growing co's in the CPG space and the category leader for bone broth. The company has a unique founding story in that it solely grew their customer base through digital marketing. This helped fuel their retail push in the past year (6,000+ locations including Whole Foods and HEB).

Jack will discuss how they got their first 1,000 customers with a tiny team, how they identify and prioritize new marketing channels, what they did to scale to 7-figure monthly revenue, and all the learnings and mistakes they've made along the way. The goal with this presentation is for everyone to come away with at least 5 actionable learnings they can implement for their CPG business.

International Track | Selling Texas Abroad (Capital Factory)
Leading foreign countries maintain business and economic development offices in cities across the United States to recruit and assist companies expanding in both directions - to the U.S. and back into their home countries.  Many U.S. states similary have representation in the world's top economic countires and regions: Florida, Georgia, Pennsylania, Illinois and Pennsylvania all have 10 or more offices overseas.  Meanwhile, Texas as a standalone State, is the 10th largest GDP economy in the world - but we have only one foreign office.  In this session we will explore how that lack of global representation and engagement is holding back opportunities for Texas companies in terms of finding customers, making sales, and attracting talent.

Design Track | Oh the Vanity! How Personal Biases Ruin the Best of Intentions (@ WeWork Barton Springs)

Today, the lion's share of key decisions about users and experiences are owned by a small contingent of educated people. But when those biases are released into their user base, there is only so much we can do to rescue an investment that fails to resonate. However, there is hope; in some organizations, designers and developers are engaging design research earlier in the process, using stories and statistics to validate a business case for crafting more empathetic products and experiences. In this session, Annie Hardy, Founder of zeet insights, and Krystal Webber, Global Design Lead of IBM Blockchain Services, will discuss the empathetic design approach they've gained from their experience working with populations ranging from indigent Spanish-speaking populations to global corporate CEOs. In the case studies shared, we'll examine the biases that emerged in the design process by government entities, startups, and corporate America. We'll also discuss how large enterprises with large budgets conduct research differently than teams with modest budgets. Attendees will leave with a set of guiding thoughts and approaches they can apply to question their own biases in the design process.

Your business is scaling.  You're getting more and more interest and orders from customers abroad.  You know you should be following up on such opportunities because it's all incremental revenue that helps your company grow.  But It's a big world out there!  Where to begin?  How do you do it?  To start, you can't do it all!  You need to focus - on just one or two countries/markets to get started.  Where you're already seeing some traction.  And/or places that we might call "low hanging fruit".  Places that are nearest Texas and the U.S. - like Mexico and Canada.  Or where the English language is prevalent to ease early business conversations - like the UK, Ireland, the Nordic region, and Australia.  And, very importantly, where there are knowledgeable resources on the ground right here in Austin and Central Texas whose job it is to answer your questions, make introductions abroad, and help you succeed in your global expansion opportunities.

Design Track | Inner Technology: Using Improv and Meditation for Effective Design (@ WeWork Barton Springs)
Modern designers and engineers build and work within systems, which include complex structures of interconnected products, components, and people. Meditation and improv will allow your team to focus on collaboration and effective communication within these complex systems. Concepts covered in this workshop include:||Confident communication. Many improv exercises can help you become a better speaker, a better listener, and a better communicator on a team. They can especially help engineers improve their ability to give presentations and pitches.||Dealing with uncertainty. Humans are complex creatures...and we sometimes behave ambiguously and unpredictably. Improv and meditation will help your team navigate through uncertainty through a foundation of calm honesty. This will allow emotional reactions and irrational behavior to become less prevalent.

International Track | Country Spotlight: The Texas - Germany Connection
Roughly half the size of Texas in square miles...but with about 3X as many people as Texas...Germany is the 4th largest GDP economy in the world - smaller than Japan, but larger than that of the UK.  Germany and Texas share deep history together as a good part of the Lone Star State was settled by German immigrants in the mid-1800's as evidenced by the many German towns all over the State.  Germany has the strongest business and consumer spending power in the whole of Europe, accounting for about 28% of the EU's entire economy.  More than half of all Germans speak English, making this a smart and exceptional foreign market for Austin scaleups to engage with and find customers.  Austin has a growing number of ties with important regions of Germany, as well as major companies headquartered there which are making investments in Texas offices and operations in leading fields like health care, transportation and gaming.

Design Track | Launching Your Fashion Start-up ATX Style (@ WeWork Barton Springs)
This roundtable discussion is the perfect place to learn about how to launch a fashion (tech) start-up in a non-fashion capital. We'll discuss what makes Austin's fashion and creative industries unique, the resources that are available to support you, and how to overcome the challenges of building a fashion brand.

We don't often think of new fashion brands as start-ups, but the reality is that they often feature some of the best characteristics of great start-up brands: flexibility, creativity, strong brand story, quick prototyping, and the ability to pivot. This event will explore these characteristics as we consider how to leverage your strengthens in an effort to scale your fashion (tech) start-up.

This event is for anyone participating in the fashion and creative industries in Austin: whether they are launching a new fashion label, a tech solution for the fashion industry, or a new retail concept. We'll discuss how the changes in the global fashion industry are creating new opportunities for entrepreneurship in fashion, and how to start taking advantage of the distinctive opportunities that building a fashion brand in Austin offers.

HR and Culture Track | Lightening Talks - How Culture Drives Customer Experience, Employer Branding: Telling your Story, and Workforce Automation (@ Walmart Tech)
How Culture Drives Customer Experience (30 minutes)
Presented by Elijah May, Managing Partner at The Experience Firm

People like to say there's no silver bullet in business, but they're wrong.

According to a 2018 benchmark report by the Tempkin Group, companies with a "Moderate Improvement in Customer Experience" are seeing anywhere from a 75-100% increase in annual revenue over three years. This is why more companies than ever before are investing real money in customer experience, with some even going so far as to hire a Chief Experience Officer - and those CXOs are finding that culture is everything.

Whether you hire a CXO or not, if you're serious about your company's profitability, it's time to get serious about creating a culture in which your employees are motivated and empowered to make customers happy. Happy customers spend more money. Happy customers come back. Happy customers tell their friends. Happy customers come from the experience created by employees who embrace a tangible mission, adhere to values that mean something and hold to a clear vision for a future worth creating.

If you're reading this, you probably believe in culture enough to have written down your mission, vision, and values, and you might even proud of them. The problem is that they're probably crap. In this session, we're going to have a really candid conversation about how to create a culture rooted in reality and capable of driving the customer experience that's going to make you a huge success (no matter how you define success).

Employer Branding Through Growth: Telling your Story (15 minutes)
Presented by Leif Wennerstrom, Director of Recruiting at Procore

Every company has hiring challenges: location, market, unknown brand, lack of resources, just to name a few. Procore's headquarters is located in a sleepy beach town 90 miles north of Los Angeles, which poses a hiring challenge that has meant ever-changing partners, technology, and channels to build our brand. Our agile branding approach has scaled alongside our growth with a clear story and bespoke talent experience. Hear lessons learned at every step from 75 employees to over 1000 in 3 years.

- What to change and what to keep in branding through growth
- Talent engagement at every stage

This presentation will explore the various models of social impact design, from volunteer-led efforts to company initiatives and fully-dedicated companies. Successful strategies for making lasting changes will be discussed along with the challenges for each approach.  Communities everywhere can be strengthened by collaborative social impact design and finding the right approach to best leverage your skills and time will benefit both the designer and those being served.

Austin Startup Week Post-Event - MobilityX HR Hackathon
Objective
How can we embrace digital innovation to improve employees’ professional personal wellbeing at Daimler Financial Services?

Overview
As Daimler Financial Services races into the future with a focus on digitalization we continuously challenge our employees to adopt new digital processes in order to provide excellent service to our customers. Through rapid adoption of emerging software platforms, mobile apps and automated workflows our employees are unrivaled in achieving our customer service and efficiency goals. As this type of success is often measured through KPIs what is often missed in such metrics is the importance of the human who sits at the center of every customer touchpoint. We do not forget this though. Our employees are of paramount importance to us. As a Great Place to Work, we feel it is our duty to continue to be good stewards of the health and wellbeing of each employee as it is through their personal success that we will find continued corporate success.

In this hackathon, we are looking for ways to further embrace innovation. But rather than using it as a tool to improve customer experience, we are looking for innovative ideas that will improve our employees’ personal wellbeing. This solution should be different to the ones already existing on the market and therefore provide a unique added value for our Daimler Financial Services employees.

Perks and Prizes
This hackathon is not just about solving big challenges in creative, innovatie ways -- it is also a great opportunity to pitch to executives and key decision makers at Daimler Financial Services. Additionally, the top three teams will receive the following prize money:

First Place: $10,000
Second Place: $5,000
Third Place: $2,500

Objectives for your solution might address the following:
  1. Decreasing stress
  2. Decreasing mental churn (spinning your wheels)
  3. Increasing personal happiness
  4. Increasing personal fulfillment
  5. Improving diet and/or physical health
  6. Improving team atmosphere
  7. Leveraging the potential of Mindfulness, thereby enabling employees to practice it daily at their workplace
  8. Consider already existing initiatives/company offers (Health Check, seminars, speeches, company’s sport club, social Counselling,…)
  9. Making meetings more beneficial, engaging or efficient
  10. Advertising the Health Management activities
  11. (Insert objective for what would make YOU a great employee)
We are open to any and all ideas by way of the digital platform, but contributors must be specific about how they would collect and use data as well as how they would track the success of their proposed solution.

This event runs through Sunday, October 7th at 5:00 PM.
